2.Programme on Natural Resource Protection and Management

Lack of awareness about the common lands, forest and water resources among rural community has led to degradation of such resources and going waste. Though there are laws and rules (under Panchayat Raj Act, Section 61 A, a sub-committee on the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, forests and water should be formed), implementation of these rules is not possible until rural community are not well aware of their Rights on these lands and leading to very less participation. Panchayat Raj institutions have failed to identify these lands which have a huge economic value. Hence there is lack of responsibilities of these resources.
