1. Protection of Environment and combating Global warming :
MARSS-K instituted Awareness programme in the year 2012-13 on Protection of Environment and forest in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Social forestry, Department of Watershed and Gram Panchayats in Davangere District, Bellary district, Gadag District, Haveri District.
In the year 2002-03 and 2012-13, this programme was conducted and implemented in coordination with Ministry of Forest and Environment, GoI, KRVP(Karnataka Rajya Vignana Parishad) & BGMMA Vedike. The main objective of this programme is making familiarity with clean environment, soil and water conservation, rain water harvesting, promoting afforestation etc.
The Programme was conducted for School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC), Community, Students CBO’s, RWAs and SHG’s Members. Stress was made on usage of vermi compost, kitchen gardening, giving awareness about clean environment soil and water conservation, rain water harvesting, promoting afforestation, making proper soak pits, eradication of open defecation etc. It not only emphasized on bringing awareness to the villagers with the Forest Rights, but also conducted interaction sessions at the village level and trained them to maintain Good environment and protecting the forest with regular Supervisions by forming Village Forest Committees (VFC’s).
2. Empowerment of Tribal’s & Forest rights Act. Awareness Activities
Many tribals live in forest areas and earn their livelihood through forest resources. Many of the tribals are not aware of Forest Rights Act. Exploitation of tribals are constantly seen because of lack of knowledge on Forest Rights. Identifying this in tribal areas, MARSS-K conducted orientation programmes to reach out NGOs, CBOs etc to bring out the awareness about the rights of forest resources to the tribals. Preliminary survey was taken up in Joida in Uttarakannada, Mundaragi in Gadag and Harihar, Nyamati in Davangere District under the responsibility taken by Mr. Lokesh Gowda, treasurer of MARSS-K. This programme will be implemented all over Karnataka in future.
3. Awareness against Global Warming
An awareness programme was conducted by MARSS-K at All schools and colleges in Harihar Taluk in the year 2008-09 to 2009-2010. This programme was funded by Local donors. The programme mainly implemented to bring out measures to mitigate Global Warming and disintegration of Ozone layer, natural disaster -Plantation of more trees, to reduce pollution and to prevent use of plastic through debate ,drawings , and essay writing computaions and showing short films.
