1. Rehabilitation of Child labour & Awareness programme

To reduce child laborers and drop outs and promote Education to child labor and ensure child rights, MARSS-K came up with State Child Labour Rehabilitation & Awareness Programme in 25 GPs Harihar Taluk, Davangere District in the year 2001-2012, with a vision of ‘Ensuring child labor free village’. This programme was conducted under State Child Labour Program (SCLP) funded by Deputy Commissioner /Chairman, District Child labour project- Davangere. Under this programme, MARSS-K was running ‘Viveka Rehabilitation Center for Child Labor and schools drop outs’ at Harihar since 2002 to 2012. During these years 6140 students were enrolled. Children were brought to mainstream of education out of which 2127 among the children were girls. 80 % of these children are continuing education in main stream school.

The key beneficiaries were Street children, neo – literates, scheduled caste and scheduled tribes, marginal farmers. Regular Supervisions, monitoring & feedback were taken. Child Rights clubs, campaign rallies, utilization of mass media like newspaper, television, wall writings, broachers & handbill and charts, stickers, intervention approach at garages & Restaurants, poor conditioned hostel facility followed by Survey Interview, PRA (Participatory Research Analysis) were undertaken.

2. Campaign on implementing ‘Right To Education and Child Rights

Campaign on implementing ‘Right To Education and Child Rights’ was led successfully with the involvement of government & Non- Government organizations, CBOs, State and national level networks like-CACL-K (Campaign Against Child Labour) NAFRE-New Delhi (National Alliance For Right to Education) SAFE –K (State Alliance for Education-Karnataka), ISEC(Institute SocioEconomic Change), CRT(Child Right Trust). This programme was conducted in cooperation with Sri. K C Venkatesh, State Convener, SAFE-K, Smt. Vanaja Kolagi, SAFE-K, Sri. Gopinath and Sri. Sugoor Thippeswam, Resource person.

3. Campaign training and workshop on Juvenile Justice Act-2015

Campaign, training and workshops were conducted on Juvenile Justice Act-2015 for Government officials, all elected representatives, welfare associations, CBOs, NGOs, VOs etc. This programme was conducted by door-to-door sticker campaign, wall paintings/writing in railway stations, bus stands, Government offices ‘compound in coordination with CACT and UNICEF project and funded by Department of Women and Child Development, Davangere. Successful implementation of this program was recognized and Secretary/coordinator of Viveka Rehabilitation Centre for Child labors-MARSS-K was selected as member of District Committee of Women and Child trafficking Control .Dr. Y Nagappa Minister for Socialwelfare GoK, Mr. M.S.Ravishankar IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mr. S.B Kittur KAS, Mr.HP Nagaraju KGS, Mr. K. Nagabhushan KAS, Tahasildhar ,Harihar and Mr. M.S. Jayaswamy, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Development, Davangere,Mr. T.S Murugannanavar,Circle Police Inspector, Dr. A. Narayan, EO, TP, Harihar,Mr. Horapete Malleshappa KES,Mr. K Raghavendra Bhat, District Coordinator, UNICEF Project and Mr. Vasudev Sharma, President, CRT involved and joined hands in this campaign for its effective implementation.

4. Ashakirana (Poor Children’s Residence Centre):

Ashakirana was started with the objective of maintaining Residential Centre for urban and rural poor and talented students (Girls and boys), providing them tuition facilities and encouraging them to pursue higher education. This programme was instigated in Hirehadagali Hobli, Hoovinahadagali Taluk, Bellary district and Malebennur hobli, Harihar Taluk, Davangere District. These residential centers are providing good food & clothing, qualified teachers & staff and other facilities. Many steps are taken towards providing equal and quality education under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Department of Education, Gok. This programme was appreciated and supported by Mr.Channabasappa, BRC-H,Hadagali, Mr.Govindappa, Mr. B.C. Siddappa, APO, Mr. Basavarajappa, DYPC, Mr. M.S. Prasanna Kumar, BEO and Mr. Bellashetty, DDPI, Department of Education. Sri Nagesh Aitaal Circle police inspector, Sri Srinivas Taluk officer ,Dept. of Social welfare. Sri Vadeyar CRP, Sri Kotresh Local reffresentive, Churi Basavaraj PCO, MARSS-K , Sri Page35 CC Ramchandranaik and Sri Hire Hadagali Kalmat Swamihi.

5. Chinnara Angala- Bridge Course Centre for School Dropout Children

Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan , Department of Education, Government of Karnataka, MARSS-K instigated Bridge Course Centre for School Dropout Children in Harihar, Jagalore (Davangere District), Joida (Uttarakannada District), Shimoga (Shimoga District). The programme was mainly aimed at maintaining Residential Bridge Centre for urban and rural poor and talented students (Girls and boys) by providing tuitions and bringing them to mainstream line and other the programmes like ‘Koolyinda Shalege’, ‘Beedyinda Shalege’, ‘Baa Bale Shalege’, Tent Schools And Day Bridge School were also successfully planed and implemented in which MARSS-K was involved.
