1. HEALTH CAMPS

MARSS-K organized and conducted “Brihath Aroggya Tapasana & Uchita Oushadhi Vitarana Shibira” on the occasion of decade festival celebration Programme at Kamripet, Hubli in 2011 inaugurated by the then Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka Mr. Jagadeesh Shetter. Under this programme, free treatment and medicine was given to more than one lakh people in association with SDM Medical College, Dharwad, Naryana Hrudralaya, Bengaluru and Cipla Ltd. Asthma Specialist Rashtrapati Puraskar awardee,Dr. Krishna H.N, Dr. Kirti P.L HOD,Sri Darmasthala Medical College and Dr. Manjunaath and team, Narayan Hridhayalaya attended patients.

2. Programme on sanitation :

Construction of toilets at low cost was done at Harapanahalli TMC to identified vulnerable beneficiaries. This programme was conducted in coordination with District Urban Development Cell (Department of Urban Development) & TMC –in the year 2011-12 along with this MARSS-K identified the public places where open defecation was frequently observed and proposal was made to construct public toilets with donor’s contribution. Public toilets were successfully constructed preventing the misuse of public property for open defecation. Mr. P.S. Vastrad, IAS, Deputy Commissioner/ Chairman for DUDC, Davangere appreciated for this huge success and supported this programme. Mr. M.K. Nalavadi, Commissioner, CMC, Harihar, Mr. E.N Prasanna, Project Director, DUDC and Dr. V.T, basavaraj, Community Development Specialist were involved and supported this programme. This programme got huge appreciation and great support from public.

3. Nirmal Nagar Project on Solid Waste Management:

MARSS-K conducted Nirmal Nagar Project under KUIDFC on Solid Waste Management in coordination with City Municipality, Harihar in the year 2006-07 to 2008-09. IEC (Information Education and Communion) Activities like Collection of waste from door-to-door, classification of wastes and separating it, reuse of collected wastes and other activities were successfully carried out. Self Help Groups (SHGs), Community Based Organizers (CBOs), Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs), Staff, Officials, Rag Pickers and other groups of Harihar took active part in this intervention. This programme was successfully implemented in cooperation with Sri. D G Raghunath, Chairman, Standing Committee, CMC, Sri. D H Raya, Commissioner, CMC, Sri. N Renuka, Commissioner, CMC, Sri Shivashankar, Chief Engineer, DMA, GoK, Sri. Jagadeesh, Environmental Engineer, Smt. Jayamma, Project Officer, SJSRY. This programme was effectively handled by our team headed by Sri. A Halesh, MSW, Smt. Savitha and Smt. Shakuntala.

4. Sri Vaishnavi College of Para Medical Science-Health education

Sri Vaishnavi College of Para Medical Science was started affiliated under Board of Para Medical – Department of Health and Family Welfare (GOK) at Harihar Town (Davangere District). The aim of it being to render medical service for vulnerable and urban poor and support child labour who are rehabilitated and brought to main streams. Para medical courses Diploma in Health Inspector and Diploma in operation theater technician were being taught. It was established to explore employment opportunities for college dropouts, rural youth, and unemployed. Main objective is to bring awareness about rural health & sanitation, environment, integrated health purposes. It is imparting education for 40 students per course per year and is well equipped with laboratories and has tie up with Primary Health Center (Rural Public hospital) and Government Hospital to impart practical experiences to the students. Advanced Training and Skill Development which is ongoing is accompanied by self–employment and entrepreneurship development programmes. More than fifteen senior and most experienced staffs are been working in this college which is headed by Dr. Shivanandappa D M G, Principal, Dr. Chandralekha N Hadagali, HOD of DOTT department , Dr. Panchaksharappa, HOD of DHI department and Dr. Kuber Naik.

5. Tuberculosis Awareness Program (RNTCP ):

MARSS-K is empanelled with Karnataka State Aids Prevention Society (KSAPS) and has worked in Tuberculosis awareness Program (RNTCP) as a Communication facilitator for 15 districts Bengaluru Division with TB Division, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka.

6. AWARENESS DRIVE FOR HIV/AIDS

MARSS-K come up with Community Health and awareness on HIV/AIDS, Nutrition & Family welfare in the year 2005-06 in Harihar, Davangere district in coordination with ACTION-Aid, DAPCU(District AIDS Prevention Control Unit), Department of Health and Family Welfare, General Hospital, Harihar. Sex workers were provided with condoms and advised to use the same for safer sex. Conducting counseling for HIV positive people, provided medicine to the HIV affected people which will fight against HIV. MARSS-K is providing awareness to the community, truck drivers about how to prevent HIV by conducting Rallis , Hand bill Campaign, Poster camping , Identification of the HIV positive people and providing medical facilities, conducting counseling for sex workers as well as in the Community. In remembrance of death of AIDS affected people, Candles were lit and prayed god for their peace.


MARSS-K is having experience of working with “Sanjeevini” HIV + people network Davangere. On the eve of World AIDS day, SHG group leaders expressed alertness and awareness against HIV/AIDS. We have been organizing camps on reproductive health in Davangere and we are promoting Yoga and Therapies at schools & Colleges to blend knowledge, skills on health and good practices (Values). Yoga Camps were also organized on the eve of ‘Yoga’ day for Hostel students. This programme is replicated every year on the day of World AIDS Day.
