1. Integrated Watershed Management Project (IWMP):

Integrated Watershed Management Programme is World Bank assisted programme conducted by MARSS-K in coordination with Watershed Development Department, Government of Karnataka has done developmental activities in 5,146 hectares area covering 8 villages of 3 GPs in Mundaragi Taluk of Gadag District. Development of un-cultivated land and natural resources in watershed project area has increased the fertility, productivity and energy propagation, management of resource to the local community. Capacity building was done for improvement of the livelihood and employment opportunities followed by formation of Women SHGs, networks, User Groups like Kere/ neeru Balakedarara Gumpugalu etc and enhancing them with credit linkage. This programme was successfully implemented in cooperation with Dr. Rajanna, Director, Department of Watershed,Sri. V S Turumuri, CEO-ZP, Gadag, Sri. S S Patel, DWDO, Gadag, Sri. Shakil Hussain, AO, DWDO, Sri. Rajendra Meti, TWDO, Mundaragi and Sri. Ramanna Mandalagiri, Jalawadagi. Our staffs who contributed themselves in this programme were Sri. Tippanna Girisagar,Team Leader, Sri. Mahantesh G T, IGA coordinator, Sri. Chaitanya S. Tuppad and team.

2. Programme on Sustainable Agriculture and horticulture:

Programme on Sustainable Agriculture and horticulture: MARSS-K organized Programme for farmers under Karanataka Krishi Abhiyan in Duggavti GP, Harapanaharlli Taluk (Davangere District) Biruru Hobali, Kaduru Taluk (Chickkamagalore District) Hampsagar Hobali, HB-Halli Taluk (Bellary District) Bydagi Hobali(Haveri District), MalebennuruHobali, Harihar- Taluk( Davanagere District) Sri RampuraHobali, Hosadurga Hobali (Chitradaurga District) in the year 2009-10. Facilitating the farmers to get better agriculture productivity, providing various technical needs of the farmers, promoting seed conservation, organic farming, multiple and mixed cropping, water and soil conservation, promotion of horticulture and providing necessary information and training on agriculture were the key activities in this programme.

This programme was conducted at Hobli level by strengthening ‘Raita Samparka Kendras’ and forming farmers’ groups. Motivating the farmers to go for Horticulture crops, visiting the villages, making interaction with the farmers and farmers groups were formed by conducting meeting of Gram sabhas. Awareness was given to the farmers about afforestation, Horticulture and agricultural activities by distributing the hand bills among the farmers. Training, workshops, group formation, arranging meetings with officials, demonstrations, Seed Banks etc were conducted to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, marginal farmers, Rural, women, men, migrants.

Meetings were arranged between government officials and farmers. It motivated the farmers to go for horticulture crops and given information about the marketing facilities for such crops and enlightened them about National Horticultural mission. Exposure visit was undertaken. Main focus was drawn on addressing the water scarcity& ground water improvement and poor productivity of agriculture and allied activities like plantation of commercial trees, goat & sheep rearing, dairy, cattle farming, horticulture development etc.

Efforts were made to enlighten the farmers with Land Rights under Land Rights programme for poor farmers.

3. Animal Health Camps:

MARSS-K has been involved in organizing animal health camps –all domestic animals in association with District Health Officer and Veterinary Department at Mundaragi Taluk , Gadag district. MARSS-K is involved in ‘ Govu Rakshana Vedike’ , protection of indigenous cow breed.

4. Hasiru Honnu (production of non-edible oilseeds for bio fuels)

Farmers of Duggavathi, Chirasthahalli, Neelagunda, Gundagatti and Telagi GPs in Harapanahalli Taluk, Davangere districts were identified and given one (1) lakh seeds which yield Oil seeds used for producing Bio fuels. Farmers by planting these seeds in the farming lands’ bunds and hedge. This work is undertaken under MGNREGA in the year 2009-10. Farmers have to get the application forms from the Panchayat office and should be returned to the Panchayat office dully filling the applications. Awareness was given to the farmers about afforestation through distribution of pamphlets, video clips, wall writing, media and advocacy etc. This programme was conducted in coordination with, Zilla Panchayat, Davangere, Karnataka State Bio fuel Development Board. This programme was supported by Mr. Gutti Jambunath, Chief Executive Officer, ZP, Davangere, Mr. Nataraj H Desai, Officer, KSBFD Board, Mr. Krishna Nayak, Executive officers of Taluk Panchayat, Harapanahalli and Gram Panchayat PDOs, Presidents. This programme was effectively handled by Mr. Ravikumar, State Conviner MARSS-K and team.
